Animated World Map

International stayover tourism arrivals grew by an estimated 6% over the first four months of 2017, with business confidence reaching its highest level in decades according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The organization also reported that growth was highest in April and weakest in March due to the Easter Holiday period reflected later this year than 2016. International arrivals reported by destinations around the world were positive overall, with a few exceptions. It was estimated that growth in the Caribbean region was 2.3% for January to April 2017.

According to the World Economic Outlook for April 2017, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects global economies to grow by 3.5% in 2017 and 3.6% in 2018, up from 3.1% in 2016. The growth projections are supported by buoyant financial markets and cyclical recovery in the manufacturing and trade industries. Much of the expected pickup is expected to come from stronger activity in emerging markets such as China, India and Mexico. In the group of advanced economies, improvement is driven by higher projected growth in the United States.
