The all-clear has been issued for Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac following the passage of Hurricane Beryl on Thursday afternoon (4 July), with no reports of injuries to residents or visitors on any of the three Islands.
All airports, including the Owen Roberts International Airport in Grand Cayman, and the Charles KirkConnell International Airport in Cayman Brac as well as seaports are opened. Clean-up operations are also currently underway across the country to ensure the well-being of residents and visitors.
"Thanks to the many prayers from those at home and abroad, the comprehensive preparedness efforts led by the government in collaboration with our weather forecasting and disaster management agencies, we have been able to safeguard the lives of our community,” said Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, Premier of the Cayman Islands. “Now that the hurricane has passed beyond our shores, our focus has shifted to recovery and restoration, to enable normal life to return as swiftly as possible.”
“Recognising that our islands have been extremely fortunate to have experienced only minor damage from this powerful storm, we remain deeply concerned for our Caribbean neighbours who have faced severe destruction. The Cayman Islands Government extends its heartfelt support and solidarity to all those affected by Hurricane Beryl, and we are committed to aiding our neighbours in their recovery efforts, Premier O’Connor-Connolly continued.
Deputy Premier Minister for Financial Services and Commerce and Investment, Innovation and Social Development, Hon. André M. Ebanks highlighted the resilience of the financial sector, stating, "Despite the challenges we anticipated Hurricane Beryl to bring, I am immensely relieved that all sectors of our diversified economy are operating as usual. We are so very proud of our community whose proactive efforts allowed for this outcome.
In providing an update on the tourism sector, Hon. Kenneth Bryan, Minister for Tourism and Ports said “I am thankful that our thorough preparations have paid off and I am pleased to report that all airports and seaports, the Cayman Islands major attractions, hotels, and restaurants have not sustained significant damage. While there may be minor inconveniences due to ongoing clean-up, we expect our tourism sector to be fully operational and ready to welcome new visitors within the next 48 hours. We look forward to inviting all travellers to experience the warmth, beauty and hospitality that the Cayman Islands is known for, and we are dedicated to making their stays as special as possible.”
The Cayman Islands Government has expressed its gratitude to the emergency response teams, civil servants, residents and visitors for their resilience and cooperation during this challenging time. The coordinated efforts of all involved has been acknowledged as being crucial in ensuring the islands' safety and swift recovery.
