Cayman Islands 26 September 2023
The Cayman Islands has found a new Tourism Ambassador in Rayne Harding of John Gray High School on Grand Cayman, the winner of the 2023 Tourism Ambassador Video Competition.
The Tourism Ambassador Video competition invited students between the ages of 14 and 17 years old to submit formal video presentations on one of three timely topics affecting Caribbean tourism.
An accomplished musician and member of the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps, Mr. Harding impressed the selection committee with his video presentation, “Grand Tripping: A focus on multi-generational travel” where he outlined why the Cayman Islands tourism product should cater to the needs of multi-generational travellers including children, parents, and grandparents.
In his role as Tourism Ambassador, he will represent the destination at the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Tourism Youth Congress taking place in the Turks and Caicos Islands from 10 to 13 October as well as at selected Ministry of Tourism and Department of Tourism sponsored events over the next year.
The Tourism Ambassador Video Competition is a part of the Department of Tourism’s local tourism awareness programme and, in addition to promotion tourism awareness, the video competition aims to assist young students to develop useful communication, reasoning and public speaking skills that will serve them throughout their lives academically and professionally.
The announcement of the 2023 Tourism Ambassador comes on World Tourism Day, which is commemorated each year on 27 September, and is geared towards fostering awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value.
