Pirates Week – 7-11 November 2019
Now in its 42nd year, this year's Cayman Islands Pirates Week promises to bring fun filled days of mock "pirate invasions" and celebration of our culture and heritage! We hope to see pirates and landlubbers alike at this year's festival, ready to have lots of fun in the Cayman Islands.
Festivities begin in Cayman Brac from November 1st-3rd with a bon fire and Kick-Off party, heritage displays, a parade and fireworks! It’s three days of Cayman Brac culture, fantasy and fun.
The festivities move to Grand Cayman for the most famous of events (7-11 November) with five fun filled days of music, street dances, competitions, games, food festivals of traditional dishes and drinks, a Pirate Pooch Parade, a children’s fun day, teen dances, two glittering parades, sporting events for all ages, a pirate invasion and spectacular fireworks displays!
On Saturday 10th November, the pirates will "invade" the islands attacking from the sea at Hog Sty Bay in the George Town harbour. Traditionally the Governor is 'captured' and the pirates 'run amok' before being cast off again for another year.
Thousands of people line the streets to watch the spectacle and its good-natured swashbuckling fun. It's the only event of its kind in the Caribbean region and it caters to everyone in the family!
District Heritage Days 12-16 November
Revelry then moves into the hands of the five District Committees of Grand Cayman for the well-loved "District Heritage Days". These celebrations span five days where each district committee will celebrate their unique traditions, artefacts, food and people. This is a competition that leaves one as the overall District Heritage Day winner and will leave them with bragging rights for an entire year. The District Heritage Days will take place from 12th - 16th November
Pirates then invade Little Cayman (15th -17th November) as they make once last stop before heading out to sea for another year.
