Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, 26 January 2018 @ Deputy Premier and Tourism Minister, the Hon Moses Kirkconnell visited Kingston Jamaica on Wednesday, 24 January 2018 to meet with Jamaica Tourism Minister, the Hon Edmund Bartlett. The Ministers discussed possible opportunities for both countries to collaborate with a regional focus on tourism and aviation connectivity. Deputy Premier Kirkconnell and Minister Bartlett shared the strengths of the Cayman Islands and Jamaica to possibly combine efforts of both nations as levers to growth.
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, 26 January 2018 — Deputy Premier and Tourism Minister, the Hon Moses Kirkconnell visited Kingston Jamaica on Wednesday, 24 January 2018 to meet with Jamaica Tourism Minister, the Hon Edmund Bartlett. The Ministers discussed possible opportunities for both countries to collaborate with a regional focus on tourism and aviation connectivity. Deputy Premier Kirkconnell and Minister Bartlett shared the strengths of the Cayman Islands and Jamaica to possibly combine efforts of both nations as levers to growth.
Noting the common cultural experiences and unique features of both countries, a multi-destination marketing agreement was discussed. The impetus is to provide a more diverse offering for international visitors. The ministers explored the role of Cayman Airways in enabling connectivity by operating within the concept of the spoke-hub paradigm. Additionally, the ministers discussed collaborations in cruise tourism to foster the building out of a strong Western Caribbean itinerary.
Minister Kirkconnell said, “As we celebrate record growth in tourism arrivals and Cayman Airways, our National Flag Carrier, turns 50 years it’s important to look toward future success. By developing new routes for connectivity, we will secure the long-term sustainability for our tourism industry and our National Flag Carrier Cayman Airways.”
Supporting this initiative through attending the meetings were Director of Tourism, Mrs. Rosa Harris, Chairman of Cayman Airways, Mr. Phillip Rankin and President and CEO of Cayman Airways, Mr. Fabian Whorms. The Cayman Islands delegation business trip also included a meeting with Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) executives with a tour of the baggage handling facility and VIP lounges. The Cayman Islands goal was to engage with the airport NMIA management to discuss opportunities that will deepen aviation relations between Cayman Airways and NMIA.
Minister of District Administration, Tourism and Transport, Hon. Moses Kirkconnell; Jamaican Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett agreed to sign a multi-destination marketing arrangement later this year, with Cayman Airways playing a possible role in increasing connectivity.
Hon. Deputy Premier Moses Kirkconnell led the Cayman Islands Delegation, met with Jamaica Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett and Permanent Secretary Mrs. Jennifer Griffith
